Dr. Zarzar is Associate Professor of Psychiatry with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate and medical education at UNC Chapel Hill and his psychiatry residency at UNC Hospitals. Dr. Zarzar divides his time working at a UNC community psychiatric hospital and North Carolina's Central Prison. He has treated patients on the inpatient psychiatry restrictive housing unit at Central Prison for the last five years and also oversees a residential psychiatric unit. His interests include the care of individuals with severe mental illness, and the reduction of self-injurious and violent behavior in this population.
