Factors Impacting MOUD Treatment Decisions in Criminal Justice-Involved Populations
Description

There is growing evidence that medications for opioid use disorder, including monthly extended-release injectable versions, are effective treatments. This study found that patients face barriers to using various forms of MOUD and people with criminal justice involvement face even greater barriers. Interviews indicated that some patients expressed anxiety about trying a new medication, a fear of needles, preference for taking medicine daily, and having fear of withdrawal.
