Speaker Bio
Dr. Byron Kennedy is the Chief Medical Officer for the Connecticut Department of Correction (CTDOC).  In this role, he oversees a statewide correctional health care system that includes both prison and jail settings.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, he has provided clinical leadership for the agency's response regarding the inmate patient population.  He has also briefed and advised other executive leaders about control measures relating to employees.  Dr. Kennedy is a former public health official, having served as the Health Director for the City of New Haven, CT, and as the Health Commissioner for Monroe County, NY.  Before that, he worked at the California State Legislature providing health policy expertise to elected members and their staff.  He has practiced in occupational medicine, urgent care, and general practice clinics and has focused on improving the care of vulnerable patient populations.  Previously, Dr. Kennedy earned his MD, PhD, and MPH degrees from Yale University.  He is board certified in Preventive Medicine and is an elected Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
