Dr. Robert Lawrence is chief medical officer for the Alaska Department of Health. He has extensive experience building partnerships between corrections and public health to improve health care for justice-involved populations. He earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2003. After completing his residency, Dr. Lawrence practiced family medicine in rural Alaska before serving as chief medical officer for the Alaska Department of Corrections from 2013 to 2024. He was appointed chief medical officer for the Alaska Department of Health in 2024. Dr. Lawrence also holds a master's degree in education and a master's degree in bioethics.
