A nursing strategic plan establishes a guideline for the future, provides direction, creates a culture of professional practice, encourages higher rates of recruitment and retention, fosters excellence in patient care, and results in quality patient outcomes. While we typically associate strategic planning with large corporations, correctional facilities of any size can engage in this professional nursing activity. In this presentation, we will discuss how to create a strategic and operational plan for correctional nursing, how to evaluate its effectiveness, and how to keep it current.
