Name
314 Surveillance for COVID-19 Using Wastewater and Nasal Swab Testing in Jails
Description

With limited resources for surveillance, prevention, and treatment, correctional facilities need early warnings of disease outbreaks so they can plan accordingly. Wastewater surveillance is a proven effective method of early detection of SARS-CoV-2. A study based in an Atlanta jail focused on the temporal relationship between wastewater-based surveillance and nasal swab diagnostic tests. It was found that wastewater surveillance predicts surges in COVID-19 case numbers.
