Speaker Bio
Dr. Len Barozzini is a dentist currently working in the Multnomah County Jails in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Barozzini did his undergraduate work at UCLA and received his dental degree at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. He has worked in public health since 2000, starting as a general dentist at AIDS Project Los Angeles. He relocated to Oregon in 2014 to become the county dental director. In that position he led a team of 40 dentists with 85,000 visits per year. His work has included mentoring OHSU dental students, administering the school-based sealant program, and delivery of dental care to adults in custody. Over his seven years leading the correctional dental program, he increased the care from four days per week to six, emphasized the importance of varnish applications, and ensured dental screenings were completed within the first few months of each patient's incarceration. Dr. Barozzini believes it is important to engage patients in the manner in which they wish to be addressed and have patients participate in and lead their oral health care and its impact on their overall health. Dr. Barozzini considers his most important career accomplishments to be reducing opioid prescriptions by county dentists by over 90% and implementing Wisdom EHR. After 20 years working as a dental administrator, he returned to clinic care full time, caring for adults in custody. He considers being able to care for patients who are most in need to be a privilege.
