CDR Ellen Smith is an experienced clinician and public health professional with over 15 years of experience in the Bureau of Prisons. Her dedication and interest in correctional care led her from the role of adult and women?s health nurse practitioner in the Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program (Federal Correctional Institution-Danbury, 2009) to a role as QI/IP&C Coordinator (Federal Detention Center-Houston, 2017) , national infection prevention & control consultant (2021) and most recently, to section chief for the surveillance & epidemiology section (2022) . Among numerous awards she has received during her career, she was selected as the 2021 American Correctional Nurses Association's Correctional Nurse of the Year. She holds a Master of Science in nursing from Yale University and a Master of Public Health from the University of California-Berkeley, as well as certifications in public health, infection control, and correctional health.
