Determining who is at high-risk for suicide is challenging for jails and prison. Not identifying high-risk individuals can be deadly. Overidentification of low-risk individuals can result in unnecessary and overly restrictive housing, clothing, and monitoring. This highly interactive session covers 10 key issues related to suicide screening and assessment of incarcerated individuals, as well as controversies associated with each one. Focus is on standard of care and best practices to help professionals provide effective clinical services they can defend in litigation. Videos, photos, audience participation, and lessons learned from correctional suicide lawsuits will be featured. 3.5 CE credits
