Ms. Mary Muse is the Chief Nursing Officer for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and has also served as the Chief Nursing Officer for Cook County Department of Corrections. Ms. Muse has been a strong advocate for increasing the visibility of correctional nurses and enhancing the nursing practice. She is a member of the NCCHC Board of Directors. She has experience as a surveyor, nurse consultant, and expert witness. She is a past president of the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals. She served as co-chair for the most recent ANA Taskforce that developed the Correctional Nursing Scope and Standards 2020 and has served on the task force revisions in 2004, 2007, and 2013. She is a contributing author for the Essentials of Correctional Nursing text and a contributing author to the 6th ed. book Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care. Ms. Muse is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, inducted in October 2020, and was recently recognized by the University of Wisconsin as "An Outstanding Women of Color." She represents the American Nurses Association on the NCCHC Board of Directors.
