Specialized treatment units provide a unique opportunity to increase direct mental health treatment and also serve as hubs of collaboration among mental health, security, and administration. This case study demonstrates the imperative need for consistent collaboration to increase quality care and service and decrease instances of violence, self-directed or external, as well as frequency of mental health crises.
