Medication nonadherence occurs in all treatment settings and is associated with increased costs and poorer outcomes, but the correctional setting presents unique considerations. Correctional psychiatrists and psychiatric practitioners should explore these areas when managing a patient's noncompliance to their medication regimen. This presentation details the myriad factors that can contribute to nonadherence and reviews the modifiable elements that can be undertaken to ensure greater compliance to psychotropic pharmacotherapy.
