125 Beyond an Undetectable Viral Load: Successful Long-Term Health for Patients Living With HIV

Successful long-term health for people living with HIV goes beyond viral suppression to encompass HIV-related and non-HIV-related factors. This presentation will explore (a) comorbidities associated with HIV, (b) the role inflammation plays in the risk for and development of comorbidities, (c) how viral suppression and its timing might affect the risk for comorbidities, and (d) pathways for PLWH to achieve health beyond viral suppression comparable to their HIV-negative counterparts.

Educational Objectives
  • Define therapeutic success in PLWH as established by the 2030 UNAIDS Goals
  • Describe common comorbidities in PLWH and evidence-based approaches to manage them
  • Discuss why treating the whole patient beyond HIV is crucial to long-term health and overall quality of life
