123 Swinging the Sickle in the Right Direction: In-Depth Sickle Cell Disease Review

The sickle cell trait or genetic mutation is carried by 2 million people in the United States, with 100,000 people having sickle cell disease. This session will discuss the origin of sickle cell disease, the different types and traits, the effects on the red blood cells, and the medical issues that may arise for those with sickle cell disease.
