I am a board certified emergency medicine physician and a CCHP, practicing correctional health care in the Cleveland, Ohio area for more than 20 years.  My practice is unique in that I am the physician for over 15 small communities that have their own city jails in Cuyahoga County.  Except for one community, none of these jails have any other medical personnel on staff.  I am on call 24/7/365 and in some of the communities EMS is allowed to assess an individual and call me instead of calling their hospital's medical control to discuss any treatment and disposition.  I find that a background in emergency medicine is beneficial when working in corrections as I do, since the patient populations are often the same - those who have nowhere else to go often end up in the ED, or in jail.  I have also served as an expert witness and have reviewed over 30 legal cases filed against corrections physicians and mid-levels, and for the past 3 years I have also been a physician surveyor for NCCHC.
