Dr. Gayani DeSilva is the Chief Physician, Psychiatry, at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Correctional Health. She also has current academic appointments at the University of California, Irvine, CUSCM, and Kaiser. She devotes much of her free time to teaching and mentoring medical students, psychiatry residents, and child and adolescent fellows. Dr. DeSilva has written two parenting books for families with mentally ill children. Working with correctional populations is the most challenging and interesting endeavor of her professional life.
