104 Telehealth: Improving Clinical Outcomes and Reducing Cost*
Description

In 2011, jails in Colorado and New Mexico came together to address the challenges of provider shortages, budget limitations, service fragmentation, and recidivism. This session will discuss the positive outcomes, both clinically and financially, and the additional benefits that exceeded expectations. Learn how telehealth evolved into improvements in access to health care, better interaction between health care staff and jail staff, cost savings, and quality-based virtual continuity of care systems that integrated into the community for medical, behavioral health, and MAT virtual programs with a 24/7 virtual transition safety net.

Learning Objectives

  • Evaluate advantages and challenges of telehealth versus on-site systems
  • Develop a strategic analysis and plan for health care and jail leaders
  • Discuss how to implement a telehealth program
