305 Reduce Suicide Risk by Enhancing Resilience
Description

Resilience is defined as the ability or capacity to adapt to and withstand stress while continuing to function successfully in times of adversity. Resilience stems from the ability to manage one's emotions and remain aware of the emotions of others, and it depends on the ability to tap into both internal and external resources, even while experiencing stress. This session will examine the relationship between resilience and suicide risk and explore how patients' resilience can be assessed and enhanced through the development of skills and other factors that protect against suicide.

  • Discuss the relationship between resilience and suicide risk
  • Identify three strategies for increasing resilience among incarcerated patients
