"Appalling" and "repulsive" were just two words used to describe conditions found at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office women's facility during an inspection by advocates in 2019. By 2021, FCSO had met or exceeded the standards of care for women in custody and had vastly improved mental health services. This presentation uses a case study to underscore ways to avoid costly and time-consuming litigation related to conditions of confinement and inadequate mental health treatment. Attendees will gain an understanding of how to avoid common pitfalls when facing litigation and will discover effective ways to partner with legal counsel to avoid and ameliorate the costs of potential litigation.
