Dr. Melissa Zielinski is an assistant professor and clinical psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Her primary role is as a research scientist. She directs the Health and the Legal System (HEALS) Lab , a diverse group of scholars and clinical trainees focused on the intersections among trauma, mental illness, addiction, and the legal system (e.g., prisons, drug treatment courts, jails, crime victims). Much of her work has focused on justice-involved women, many of whom are survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Dr. Zielinski's clinical expertise is in the treatment of trauma-related disorders including PTSD and borderline personality disorder. She has significant experience working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, and enjoys providing both group and individual psychotherapy. She also works with community agencies and providers to establish and/or improve staff training in areas that can support the needs of trauma survivors.
