Sha L. McCoy, DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC, AAHIVS, is board certified as an adult health clinical nurse specialist and recognized as a HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. In her current role, Dr. McCoy serves as a Senior Medical Scientist in HIV Treatment for Gilead Sciences. She actively lectures other health care professionals, and is a frequent speaker in schools, churches, and to groups providing support for people living with HIV (PLWH).   Prior to joining Gilead, Dr. McCoy was employed by the University of Texas Medical Branch/Correctional Managed Care (UTMB/CMC) as an advanced practice nurse.  While there she managed the care of PLWH who were incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system via telehealth.  She also spent several years caring for a predominately Black and Hispanic population of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in Houston.  In addition to treating HIV, she has an extensive background in the management of common comorbidities, as well as providing hormone replacement therapy to transgender men and women living with HIV.  In May 2019, Dr. McCoy completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  Her undergraduate and master's degree work were completed at The University of Texas at Austin where she was recognized as a Presidential Scholar and initiated into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She is a proud lifetime member of the Texas Exes Alumni Association and The University of Texas School of Nursing Alumni Association. Dr. McCoy is also active in several professional associations such as the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Society, American Nurses Association (ANA), Texas Nurses Association (TNA), and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (Houston/Gulf Chapter). She also maintains her commitment to community service, political action, and racial injustice as a member of the Suburban Houston Fort Bend Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
