P04 Suicide Screening and Assessment: Eight Key Strategies to Overcome Current Challenges*
Description

Even though most jails screen for suicide risk at intake and assess individuals who are thought to be at increased risk, suicide remains the leading cause of death in jails. There are many reasons for why our current methods of suicide screening and assessment do not always obtain accurate or reliable information. Some stem from the way we conduct the evaluations, some stem from issues related to incarcerated individuals. Either way, the consequences can be deadly. This workshop will detail 10 common challenges associated with suicide screening and assessment methods used in jails and prisons and provide eight key strategies to help overcome them – many at no cost. This highly interactive seminar features videos, photographs, audience participation, and lessons learned from suicide-related lawsuits. 3.5 CE credits
