Interdisciplinary collaboration is a significant point of discussion in correctional health care.  Although health care and custody staff must work together closely to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care to patients in custodial settings, there can be tendencies to operate in silos.  A lack of perspective and understanding of each other’s roles can lead to unnecessary conflict, poor working relationships, and adverse medical outcomes that cause harm to patients and negatively impact staff.  In this discussion, we will identify challenges, solutions, and best practices for fostering a collaborative, secure environment that ensures patient health care needs are met.
