Name
409 Turning Sick Call and Chronic Care Upside Down
Description

The sick call model, where nonpractitioners treat episodic health problems, was developed for healthy young military personnel, not incarcerated patients who are much sicker. However, most facilities only minimally engage RNs in chronic care. The speaker will propose a very different, but more logical and safer, structure of medical care delivery that takes advantage of nurses' and practitioners' clinical strengths.

Educational Objectives

  • Evaluate deficiencies in the current care delivery model in most facilities
  • Describe the three key components of a practice model that leverages the clinical strengths of nurses and practitioners
  • Discuss the benefits of a redesigned medical care delivery system
