497 Combating the Syphilis Epidemic*
Description
This interactive session will discuss the ongoing syphilis and congenital syphilis epidemic in the United States and provide a brief clinical overview of syphilis, including recommendations for testing and treatment in correctional facilities and updates on federal government efforts. Through breakout groups, participants will share challenges and successes with syphilis care. Resources will be provided to support participants in their work to end the epidemic and provide quality care.
Educational Objectives
- Discuss the syphilis and congenital syphilis epidemic and the importance of correctional health services to end the epidemic
- Describe challenges to syphilis testing and treatment and how to overcome them
- Review activities of the federal government to combat the syphilis epidemic
