416 Diagnostic Maneuvers You May Have Missed in Nursing School - Part 1
Description
This two-part session enhances nurses’ patient evaluation skills using diagnostic maneuvers that require no special equipment. Participants will learn approximately 15 bedside techniques across five anatomical categories: pulmonary maneuvers (e.g., detecting pleural rubs, tactile fremitus), abdominal assessments (e.g., proper sequencing, quadrant auscultation) orthopedic (e.g., Ottawa rules for x-ray necessity post-trauma, distinguishing soft tissue from fracture tenderness), vital signs evaluation (e.g., pupillary response assessment without flashlights, determining cardiac rhythm regularity without calipers, advanced pulse and blood pressure methods).
Educational Objectives
- Describe nursing assessment maneuvers that are not commonly used but are very relevant to corrections
- Review the nursing skills involved in applying 15 bedside maneuvers
- Discuss the usefulness of these skills at the bedside or in the clinic
