This poster explains how understanding the differential diagnosis for psychosis to determine whether the cause is secondary (organic) or primary (psychiatric) results in more effective and efficient treatment of the patient. Secondary causes, including medical conditions, drugs or toxins, and neurocognitive disorders, must be ruled out prior to consideration of a primary cause.
