RT-09 Mental Health Screenings – Getting It Right for Patients and Facilities*
Description
The new NCCHC Standards require changes to receiving and mental health screenings, impacting service delivery in both jails and prisons. This roundtable will explore how to ensure screening data is accurate and reflects the individual’s needs. Many facilities integrate mental health screening into the receiving process for efficiency, but the revisions raise the question: Should it remain combined or be conducted separately by a QHCP or QMHP? Participants will share experiences, examine operational impacts, and discuss which approach best serves patient care and facility operations.
Educational Objectives
- Describe the challenges of completing mental health screenings in jails and prisons
- Compare the practice of combining receiving and mental health screenings into one encounter versus separate encounters
