401 A Review of Gastrointestinal Issues Relevant to Correctional Facilities
Description

Gastrointestinal complaints are among the most common issues encountered in correctional health care. This session reviews evidence-based approaches to evaluating and managing common GI conditions, including GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis, constipation, and acute diarrhea. Participants will also explore appropriate use and deprescribing of proton pump inhibitors, as well as long-term considerations for patients with a history of bariatric surgery. Practical strategies for distinguishing serious presentations from routine complaints will be emphasized.
