408 Why Everything Makes Them Sick: Understanding Mast Cell Activation Syndrome
Description
Could mast cell activation syndrome be hiding behind symptoms that do not neatly fit a diagnosis? Often overlooked and difficult to identify, MCAS can mimic dermatologic, allergic, and rheumatologic conditions, leaving patients caught in cycles of inconclusive testing and ineffective treatment. This session helps attendees recognize overlapping clinical presentations, understand treatment considerations, and better identify when MCAS belongs in the differential diagnosis for complex chronic cases.
Educational Objectives
- Describe diagnostic criteria for mast cell activation syndrome
- Analyze laboratory challenges in narrowing the differential diagnosis
- Develop medication selection strategies for common clinical overlap situations
Level: Intermediate
