Judge Kate Huffman served as a general division judge of the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court from 2002 to 2023. In February 2023 she began her service as a judge on the Ohio Second District Court of Appeals. In January 2023 she began serving as the national judicial fellow of the American Bar Association. Judge Huffman received her BA in political science from Wright State University and her JD from the University of Dayton School of Law, graduating summa cum laude from each institution. In 2015 she received an MA in judicial studies from the University of Nevada and a certificate in judicial development general jurisdiction trial skills. In 2019 Judge Huffman received a certificate in judicial development dispute resolution skills from the National Judicial College. Prior to judicial service, Judge Huffman was a partner in the law firm of Huffman, Landis & Weaks. She is a member the Innovative Specialized Docket and Criminal Law and Procedure Committees of the Ohio Judicial Conference. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the board of trustees of the Ohio Judicial College. Judge Huffman completed two terms on the Commission for the Rules of Practice and Procedure of the Ohio Supreme Court, and served as chair of that commission from 2021 to 2022. She recently chaired the Ohio Supreme Court Task Force to Examine Ohio’s Bail System. Judge Huffman teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Dayton School of Law and is on the faculty of the National Judicial College.
