Dr. Luu Nguyen is the chief physician and surgeon at the California Office of the Inspector General’s Medical Inspection Unit. He has been with the OIG for the last 5 years. Dr. Nguyen earned his Bachelor of Science degrees cum laude in biological sciences and mathematics from the University of California, Davis. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his internal medical residency at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen is board certified in internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Prior to his work at the OIG, Dr. Nguyen practiced outpatient and inpatient clinical adult primary care at Kaiser Permanente for 17 years, where he served as chief of education, team lead, and held various committee appointments including quality council and access. His other activities include teaching, research, and community work. Dr. Nguyen was an assistant clinical professor for the University of California, Davis’s internal medicine program, where he mentored residents for 14 years. He was also involved in satellite imaging research at the NASA research center in Mountain View, California. Dr. Nguyen also volunteered in providing care for the uninsured Asian population at a clinic in Sacramento.
