Mr. James (Jimmy)  F.  Maruna  is a partner in Cassiday Schade's Chicago Office and has spent the last decade as a member of the firm's correctional healthcare practice group. He has litigated over 100 correctional healthcare lawsuits. His practice concentrates on civil rights litigation. He has experience in all aspects of a correctional healthcare lawsuit from pleadings to motion practice to depositions and has briefed, argued and won numerous dispositive motions in both federal and state court for his correctional healthcare clients.  Beyond his trial court experience, Jimmy handles appeals in the correctional healthcare space and has created favorable case law for correctional healthcare providers in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.  He argued the successful appeal Walker v. Wexford Health Sources, Inc. , 940 F.3d 954 (7th Cir. 2019) in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, regarding claims of delayed medical care related to offsite referrals. It has been cited over 400 times in the last five years around the nation, including by two other Federal Courts of Appeal. 
Prior to law school, Mr. Maruna worked professionally for three years as a Senior Claims Administer at Gallagher Bassett handling general liability claims, so he has personal experience on the risk management and claims handling side of litigation. He received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and his law degree from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. He is licensed to practice in Federal Courts in Illinois and Wisconsin.
