Dr. Newton Kendig is an infectious disease physician by training and a recognized leader in correctional medicine having served as the Medical Director for the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1999 to 2015 as an assistant surgeon general of the United States Public Health Service. In 2017, Dr. Kendig was appointed Clinical Professor of Medicine at GW SMHS to spearhead a criminal justice health initiative for the university. Dr. Kendig currently serves on the NCCHC Board of Representatives as a liaison for the American College of Physicians.
