Ms. Sixtine Gurrey is Washington State Department of Health?s inaugural carceral health epidemiologist and has been building partnerships with Washington?s prisons, jail association, and juvenile detention facilities since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has recently secured funding to expand her work in a more cross-cutting capacity across communicable diseases, including co-leading (and co-founding) the Carceral Public Health Peer Network, a national group that unites public health staff to discuss emerging issues, share resources, and learn from each other to improve health outcomes for people in carceral facilities across jurisdictions.
