Dr. Alane O'Connor has been providing care to individuals with substance use disorder for more than 15 years. She currently serves as the director of addiction medicine at Somerset and Franklin County Jails. In addition to her work in corrections, Dr. O'Connor serves as the medical advisor of the Maine Maternal Opioid Misuse Initiative, a 5-year, $5 million federal grant to expand access to substance use treatment for pregnant and postpartum women. She is the first director of perinatal addiction medicine at Maine Medical Center and trains both resident physicians and addiction medicine fellows. She has extensive addiction medicine experience in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient and outpatient, the emergency department, correctional facilities, and recovery courts, as well as with outreach teams that see high-risk patients in the community. Dr. O'Connor lectures on topics related to substance use disorder to audiences including medical providers, the judiciary, and law enforcement.
