Mr. Edgar Barens is a documentarian, speaker, and presenter for the California-based Humane Prison Hospice Project. The mission of Humane is to implement end-of-life care in prisons by supporting and training the incarcerated to be caregivers in prison hospices. Mr. Barens took on the mission to document one of the rare programs behind bars in hopes that other facilities will emulate the prisoner-run hospice program and instill much-needed dignity for the dying in prison for all concerned. Humane utilizes the award-winning documentary in their outreach and educational efforts as they establish justice-involved, prison-based hospice programs throughout the 34 correctional facilities in California.
