RT-03 The Impact of Incarceration on Chronic Disease Prevalence in the Black Community*
Description

Incarceration disproportionately affects certain minority communities, especially the Black community. Literature suggests that incarceration plays a significant role in the high prevalence of chronic disease in this patient population. This discussion will address racial health disparities and the significance incarceration has on one’s mental and physical health, both in prison and upon release. Only by recognizing and understanding these disparities can we properly address these concerns with our patient populations.
