153 Clinical Pearls: Staying Relevant With Current Practices*
Description

Clinical Pearls Series is a curriculum to help providers stay current with correctional medicine challenges, including timely and accurate diagnosis, effective and efficient workup, and maintaining evidence-based community standards. This session will focus on thyroid conditions, chronic kidney disease, and seizure disorders. Participants will review diagnostic strategies and discover innovations in managing more complex presentations. Real cases are used to explore differences between community jails and prisons with regard to care.

Educational Objectives

  • Explain how to develop a comprehensive differential diagnosis for thyroid disease, chronic kidney disease, and seizure disorder
  • Identify salient physical exam findings in thyroid disease, chronic kidney disease, and seizure disorder and how these findings support the differential diagnosis
  • Compare and contrast what testing is available easily in a corrections setting and when a patient needs to be sent for an off-site evaluation
