Dr. Matthew Akiyama is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. In addition to providing care to people living with HIV, HCV, and substance use disorders, Dr. Akiyama conducts research focusing on the intersection of infectious disease and the criminal legal system. Dr. Akiyama is the recipient of NIH funding to develop and test innovative models of care to improve linkage to and retention in care among individuals coming home from incarceration. Dr. Akiyama completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at New York University and a Master of Science in Medical Anthropology at University College London.
