Dr. Alexis Koenig began her correctional health career as a director of nursing. After spending six years as a health service administrator, she began teaching nursing students and supporting the correctional nursing grow as a desired specialty.
She first became interested in correctional health care after caring for many incarcerated patients in the emergency department and the acute care setting. She realized their unique needs and the positive impact nurses can have in preventing illness, self-care education/management, and case management after release.
Her mission to educate nursing students will help ensure that the incarcerated receive proper medical care.
