RT - 06 Implementing Mental Health Services in New Zealand Corrections
Description

This roundtable will describe the implementation of mental health services in the New Zealand corrections system. The strategy, Hōkai Rangi, is driving positive change by addressing the overrepresentation of Māori (Indigenous people). Gain insights from the mental health leadership team as they share their experiences, perspectives, and lessons learned and describe the transformative power of prioritizing Māori well-being and the long-term vision for mental health services.

Educational Objectives

 

  • State the complexities and challenges in implementing mental health services in the New Zealand corrections system and strategies to overcome them
  • Examine the role of the H'kai Rangi strategy in improving mental health outcomes and addressing the over-representation of M'ori people in the corrections system.
  • Explore the vision for mental health services in the Department of Corrections, particularly with regard to the well-being M'ori people and their families.
