The use of medications for opioid use disorder has repeatedly demonstrated an undeniable correlation to a reduction in overdose both during and after incarceration and to a decrease in recidivism. It is essential that health care providers identify and address barriers to the implementation and management of a corrections-based MOUD program. Prerelease planning holds critical value in continuing MOUD in the community, further reducing the likelihood of overdose and recidivism.

• Recognize the role of MOUD treatment in decreasing the risk of recidivism and the potential of overdose both during and after incarceration
• Effectively engage both administrative and medical staff in the implementation and management of a corrections-based MOUD program
