The Last Days of Private Jack Hall is a moving documentary that tells the story of Jack Hall, a terminally ill person who has been incarcerated for 20+ years and the incarcerated hospice volunteers who care for him. The session will include viewing the film and a discussion of how the hospice experience changes lives.

Educational Objectives

  • Describe the potential benefits of hospice for terminally ill incarcerated individuals, their families, and justice-involved volunteers

  • Review the difficulties in setting up a prison-based hospice program in a maximum security facility 

  • Differentiate between the care provided by trained incarcerated hospice volunteers and the alternatives.
