RT - 07 Generational Diversity: Why It Matters, What We Need to Know

The U.S. workforce is becoming more diverse, with age being one of the drivers of this shift. At present, four generations are in the workforce, bringing both assets and challenges to organizations. To actualize the benefits and mitigate the challenges, leaders must understand what motivates each group. Failure to do so can result in a less engaged workforce and an increase in turnover, as well as the loss of valuable organizational experience.

Educational Objectives

  • Examine the impact of a multigenerational workforce as it relates to expectations, communication preferences, and the benefits and challenges
  • Identify common misconceptions and stereotypes about each generation that can lead to conflict, poor communication, lack of trust, and disengagement
  • Evaluate techniques for translating knowledge of generational diversity into engagement strategies that provide cross-generational appeal
