129 Essential Updates: NCCHC OTP Standards and Jail Guidelines for the Medical Treatment of Substance Use Disorders*
Description

NCCHC’s Standards for Opioid Treatment Programs in Correctional Facilities were last updated and released in 2016. In 2018, in partnership with the National Sheriffs’ Association, NCCHC published Jail-Based MAT: Promising Practices, Guidelines, and Resources, a widely used resource for correctional facilities. As the opioid crisis and treatment landscape continue to evolve, the need for updated guidance has grown. In response, NCCHC will release new OTP Standards later this year, along with a newly published Guidelines document. This session will provide key updates on both resources and offer essential insights into implementing effective jail-based OTP and MAT programs.

Educational Objectives

  • Discuss notable updates made to both publications
  • Explain how to establish and maintain a corrections-based opioid treatment program
  • Describe how to improve access to buprenorphine and methadone in correctional settings
