Description
Incarcerated individuals smoke at five times the rate of the general population and experience a high prevalence of tobacco-related death and disability. This session will explore the risk factors contributing to tobacco-related health disparities among the justice-involved population, strategies for managing withdrawal and preventing relapse, approaches for coordinating post-release care, and practical methods for integrating tobacco treatment into carceral settings.
Educational Objectives- Review promising evidence-based practices to address tobacco use disorders (TUD) among incarcerated individuals
- Examine ways to integrate TUD treatment within the criminal justice system
- Identify realistic rapid improvement goals for implementation over the next six months to a year
