Synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as K2 or Spice, have emerged as a significant threat within correctional institutions across the country. These substances, often undetectable and highly potent, have led to a surge in overdoses and increased strain on custody staff and emergency services. This talk explores the difficulties of managing K2 use and outlines the systemic vulnerabilities that allow K2 to infiltrate correctional facilities, health and safety risks posed to incarcerated individuals and staff, and the urgent need for policy reform and resource allocation.
