Description

This session will move beyond behavior theory to explore theories of motivation and change to understand how mental health professionals can support transformation in their patients, even when they may not be sure they are ready to change. Practical strategies and the role of each individual health care provider within the larger team will be discussed.

  • Recognize how behavior is supported by triggers and rewards
  • Explain theories of motivation and change in relation to dangerous and risky behavior
  • Describe practical strategies for supporting individuals in appreciating the need to change and taking steps toward change within the context of a multidisciplinary team
