115 A Functional Approach to Managing Chronic Pain*
Description

This session provides an overview of common types of chronic pain and typical patient presentations. The presenter will review pharmacologic treatment options and highlight nonpharmacologic strategies to support effective pain management. Emphasis will be placed on setting goals focused on functional improvement rather than complete pain elimination, and on partnering with patients to establish shared, realistic treatment goals.

Educational Objectives:

  • Differentiate chronic pain from acute pain and classify common types of chronic pain
  • Integrate nonpharmacologic therapies into a comprehensive approach to chronic pain management
  • Discuss the benefits of a functional approach to chronic pain treatment
